Brunei Darussalam is a very important partner for the Republic of Korea (RoK) and the country is keen to further strengthen the level of cooperation in the energy and infrastructure sectors with Brunei Darussalam.
A number of key Korean Government departments are following up on these areas of cooperation.
This was said by Adviser for the President for Economic Affairs at the Office of the President of the RoK Joo Hyung Chul during an interview with the Bulletin on Brunei-Korea ties when he met visiting Asean journalists in Seoul, South Korea yesterday.
The Sultanate is a peaceful country to live in while it is also worth noting its rich oil resources, he added. Hyung Chul also spoke of RoK President Moon Jae-in’s visit to Brunei Darussalam and other Asean nations recently.
ASEAN member countries have pushed forward for more ties and synergy with Korea. “President Moon’s visits opened a pathway and it becomes key tasks for Korea to further develop on them,” he said.
Korea is keen to focus on ASEAN needs at the centre and to harmonise with South Korea’s Southern Policy strategy, an initiative to deepen ties with Southeast Asian nations in the future.
South Korea also planned to further facilitate cooperation not just in East Asia but also in the world.
Hyung-chul said the ASEAN-Republic of Korea 30th anniversary Commemorative Summit in Busan, South Korea on November 25-26 this year will frame out the future of the next 30 years and further.
“People, Peace and Prosperity are expected to achieve at the Commemorative Summit and not just economic cooperation,” he said.
Prior to the commemorative summit, Special ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Arts and Culture (AMCA) meeting with South Korea will take place in Gwanju this week where other auxillary events will also be held focussing on economy, development, administration, the youth and the environment.
