Scouts go on air, Internet during Jamboree

The Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association (PPNBD) through the PPNBD’s Amateur Radio Club participated in the 62nd Jamboree on the Air – (JOTA) and 23rd Jamboree on the Internet – JOTI) on October 19-20.

Over 150 scout members comprising Cub Scout, Venture Scout, Rover Scout, Air Scout and Sea Scout participated.

The JOTA and JOTI activities are scout events conducted annually at the end of every 3rd week of October.

Scout members interacted with others around the world using the Amateur Radio High Frequency and Very High Frequency (VHF) and using video conference via Skype application.

This year, the PPNBD opened two amateur radio stations at the Conference Room of its headquarters in Jalan Gadong. The amateur radio station used the call sign ‘V84CBS’ and was joined by scouts members in the Brunei-Muara and Temburong districts.

Meanwhile, in Tutong District, the amateur radio station located at Tutong District Scout Association building used call sign ‘V84CDT’.

Guest of honour Deputy Scout Chief Commissioner Haji Matassim bin Haji Duraman, scout officers, scout leaders, assistant scout leaders, members of the Cub Scout, Venture Scout, Air Scout, Sea Scout and Rover Scout were also present.

Haji Matassim participated in the interaction via radio ham with Sabah Scout Association members in Kota Kinabalu and video conference using Skype application with scout members at the JOTA and JOTI Jamboree Camp in Semenyih, Selangor, Malaysia.
