Chung Hwa Middle School, Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) held the ‘Hand Cleaning’ campaign on Thursday at its Darussalam Hall.
Principal Kho Guik Lan was present. The campaign, themed Tangan Bersih, Hidup Sihat, aimed to educate students on the right way to clean hands.
Lam Soon Group Product Manager (Household and Personal Care Marketing Division) Angelina Sim said a study showed that handwashing rates ranged from zero to 34 per cent at critical hand hygiene moments such as after going to the restroom, after sneezing or coughing and before eating or preparing food.
“Eighty per cent of common infections are spread directly by the hands, therefore we must wash hands frequently with water and soap or sanitiser for a minimum of 20 seconds to break down the grease and dirt that carry most germs.
“As we are fully committed on the issue of hand hygiene, we observed that more people could benefit from this campaign,” said Angeline.
She also said that selected schools would be supplied with Antabax antibacterial care kits and students will be trained on the correct techniques of handwashing and personal hygiene to prevent the transmission of communicable diseases.
The campaign also saw the students engaging in a demonstration of proper cleaning of hands.
