Rescued sun bear cub in Cambodia ‘still very weak’, needs lifelong care

PHNOM PENH (The Phnom Penh Post/ANN) – Veterinarians are to treat a seriously injured sun bear cub that lost its paw thanks to a rescue effort by the Wildlife Alliance last Friday, Phnom Tamao Zoo and Wildlife Rescue Centre Director Nhek Rattanak Pich told The Post on Monday.

The Wildlife Rapid Rescue Team (WRRT) rescued the injured sun bear cub in Stung Treng province.

Its Facebook post said that after receiving a tip-off, it drove all night last Thursday to reach the location and finally rescued the injured cub the following morning.

“The team is now on their way back to Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre, where they will hand it over to Free the Bears for further care.”

Upon arriving at Free the Bears’ Wildlife Hospital, the five kg sun bear received emergency care for a horrific snare injury that severed the paw.
