Potpourri of timeless melodies at Toyota Classics 2019

Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman attended the annual Toyota Classics and presented donations to two charity organisations amounting BND40,000 at the Jerudong International School Arts Centre last night.

Accompanying Her Royal Highness was Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah.

Prior to the start of the performances, a mock cheque of BND20,000 each was presented to Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam and An-Nur Harapan.

NBT (Brunei) Sdn Bhd and Toyota Motor Asia Pacific (TMAP) have brought in the London Chamber Orchestra (LCO) in which Brunei is the third stop of their 2019 Southeast Asia Tour, which includes Laos and Thailand.

This year, the LCO under the capable baton of multiple awards winning conductor, Principal Conductor and Music Director Christopher Warren-Green, performed a potpourri of timeless melodies from the great classical artistes.

The LCO was founded in 1921 and is the oldest professional chamber orchestra in the United Kingdom. It comprises some of the top musicians in London and has a rich history at the heart of classical music that spans the last hundred years.

In a speech, Chairman of the Organising Committee of Toyota Classics 2019 Haji Ahmad Omar bin Pehin Dato Haji Husin said, “The Toyota Classics is about caring for those who are less fortunate. Even in the smallest way, we can all help. For example, through the Toyota Classics everyone can chip in to give others a chance in life.”

He then added, “Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan, is a leader in organising numerous corporate social responsibility projects all over the world, and it is the 25th year for us in Brunei, for Toyota Motor Asia Pacific, this year will be their 30th Toyota Classics. This is truly a remarkable milestone.”

Haji Ahmad Omar also expressed his gratitude to Her Royal Highness for the support and generosity to the charity organisations.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, President of Toyota Motor Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, representing Toyota Motor Corporation Japan, Susumu Matsuda, and CEO of Inchcape Asia – NBT’s parent company – George Ashford were also present.
