Brunei Darussalam’s efforts being implemented under its National Land Transport Master Plan (LTMP) to address key issues and challenges in the public transport sector were shared at the 26th Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress (ITSWC) in Singapore from October 21-22.
Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof listed the four key strategies identified in the LTMP for implementation, reducing car dependency, keeping traffic moving, achieving sustainable society, and strengthening governance.
Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib shared that in line with the Brunei Vision 2035 in enhancing the quality of life, and with the inevitable coming of 5G, new technologies will become one of the enabling factors to enhance the national transport system for greater mobility, reliability, inclusivity and sustainability for Brunei Darussalam.
The minister headed a delegation comprising senior officials from the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) for the two-day event.
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport, Singapore Khaw Boon Wan opened the ITSWC 2019. A high-level policy roundtable on ITS was also held prior to the ITSWC 2019 opening ceremony.
Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib participated in the dialogue themed ‘Enhancing mobility in the 21st Century,’ alongside his counterparts from Malaysia, Thailand, Estonia and Norway, among others.
The minister also attended technical visits showcasing ITS applications in the public transport system and the ITS centre of Land Transport Authority as part of the two-day event.
Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib also held a bilateral meeting with Khaw Boon Wan to exchange views on transportation issues and initiatives to strengthen the bilateral relations in the field of transportation between the two countries.
High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Singapore Haji Awang Saifulbahri bin Haji Mansor and senior officers from the MTIC and the High Commission of Brunei Darussalam in Singapore also attended the bilateral meeting.
The Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress is an annual conference and trade show to promote ITS technologies.
Themed ‘Smart Mobility, Empowering Cities’, ITSWC 2019 is held to provide an integrated platform for international and regional policy-makers, business leaders, industry experts and academia to engage in dialogues and knowledge on innovative, safe and intelligent transportation systems.
This year’s ITSWC is the first to be held in Singapore and participated by over 80 countries.
