Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Ir Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar on Monday received the Fellowship of Chartered Civil Engineer Certificate, the highest grade of membership in the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), United Kingdom (UK), from President of the ICE UK Andrew Wyllie.
The Minister of Development was in London on a special invitation by the ICE to receive the recognition, according to the Ministry of Development (MoD).
The Minister has been registered as a Fellowship of Chartered Civil Engineer Member since 2006. Dato Seri Setia Ir Awang Haji Suhaimi and delegation toured the institution where they learnt the history of former Presidents of The ICE United Kingdom from 1818 to 2018 and observed the interior architectural history of the institution.
Prior to the awarding ceremony, Dato Seri Setia Ir Awang Haji Suhaimi paid a courtesy call on the President of the ICE UK.
At the meeting, the Minister of Development and Andrew Wyllie exchanged opinions on the engineering profession and membership of the professional engineers in the Ministry of Development and the ICE UK.
The MoD has been recognised as an Approved Training Organisation by the ICE UK since October 1999.
Through this recognition, the MoD has been able to conduct the Professional Development Programme (PDP) which includes the Further Learning Programme (FLP) and Chartered Professional Review (CPR) to allow engineers to get and be recognised as Professional Chartered Engineer Membership by the ICE UK.
The ICE UK recognised the FLP as a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Engineering, which is the same level to Brunei Darussalam Qualification Framework Level 7 Masters Degree recognised by the Brunei Darussalam National Accreditation Council (BDNAC).
The Minister of Development also met Director General of the ICE UK Nick Bayerstock in a separate meeting to exchange opinions and ideas on Enabling Better Infrastructure.
