Minister in China for official visit

Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof is in the People’s Republic of China for an official visit at the invitation of China’s Minister of National Defence General Wei Fenghe from October 16-22.

The visit began with Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi inspecting the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s guard of honour at the Ministry of National Defence, Beijing.

Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi met with the Minister of National Defence, during which both sides mutually reaffirmed the bilateral defence ties between the two countries. They also expressed their commitment for deeper and wider cooperation in areas including multilateral engagements such as the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus).

Both ministers also exchanged views on a range of current security issues, highlighting the growing importance of working closely together to address the challenges.

Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the People’s Republic of China Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Pahlawan Colonel (Rtd) Dato Paduka Haji Abdu’r Rahmani bin Dato Paduka Haji Basir was also present.

Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi will be in Wuhan for the opening of the 7th International Military Sports Council (CISM) World Games 2019 today.

The Brunei delegation including Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma’awiah; Royal Brunei Armed Forces’ Chief of Staff Captain Spry bin Haji Serudi @ Haji Seruji; and Director of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (SHHBIDSS) Haji Muhammad Shahrul Nizzam bin Umar will be attending the 9th Beijing Xiangshan Forum 2019 on October 20-22.
