A local man will learn of his fate on October 21, after he pleaded guilty yesterday in the Intermediate Court to offences related to theft and the obstruction of justice.

Sofian bin Sufri, 32, committed house trespass in Jalan Lubok Palam, Kuala Belait at 7pm on September 23, for the theft of a mobile phone and BND40.

He committed house-breaking by night at Jalan Sultan Sulaiman, Kuala Belait for the theft of property on the evening of September 26. He also committed housebreaking at Jalan Lubok Jelutong, Kuala Belait at 10pm on September 20, for the theft of a mobile phone and a bag containing BND300, RM100 and RM30.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Raihan Nabilah binti Haji Ahmad Ghazali informed the court that the defendant was arrested following reports made by the victims.

On October 1, a police officer at the Kuala Belait Police Station was questioning the defendant, when he suddenly became uncooperative and stood up.

Grabbing hold of a glass tabletop, he smashed it with his head and then picked up the shards of broken glass, at which point he was subdued and restrained by the officers at the station.

Judge Radin Safiee bin Radin Mas Basiuni is considering a fitting punishment for the defendant.
