The Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam (PPPBD) organised the Girl Guides Day 2019 in a ceremony at the Pisuk Babu and Pisuk Bapa Hall of Wafa Hotel & Apartment in Annajat Complex, Kampong Mata-Mata, Gadong yesterday.
Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam, the Royal Patron of PPPBD, graced the ceremony.
Also gracing the event were Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Bini Hajah Faizah binti Dato Haji Nasir, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Upon arrival, Her Majesty and members of the royal family consented to a group photo.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa, followed by welcoming remarks by Chief Commissioner of PPPBD Hajah Siti Hafsah binti Haji Abdul Halim.
She noted that at the 13th World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) Asia Pacific Region Convention in Taiwan on August 13-17, PPPBD was represented by three young leaders.
One of the leaders was selected as the ambassador to the event and sat as the committee to assess governance.
As the WAGGGS member, the association is committed to participate and send representatives to Interntaional activities which having participated in training sessions for Adult Leaders organised by the Philippines Girl Scouts, Heritage Camping for Girl Guides and Brownies Lead International Camping organised by the Girl Guides Association of Malaysia and Be Prepared Quest for Girl Guides and Ranger Girl Guides organised by the Girl Guides Association of Singapore.
The event saw Her Majesty presenting Special Appreciation Awards to Datin Paduka Hajah Zaharah binti Haji Idris, Datin Paduka Hajah Jusnani binti Haji Lawie and Datin Hajah Masni binti Haji Ali; Hajah Siti Mariam binti Haji Abdullah and Noriah binti Haji Dollah for 30 years continuous service; as well as recipients of Gold (20 years), Silver (15 years) and Bronze (10 years) Long Service badges.
The event continued with a cake-cutting ceremony, followed by the presentation of a pesambah to Her Majesty.
The event was further enlivened with several performances by members of the administrative committee and leaders, young leaders as well as girl guides from Tanjong Maya Primary School, Kampong Mata-Mata Gadong Primary School, Berakas Garrison Primary School, Lambak Kanan Jalan 49 Primary School, Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna Secondary School, Sayyidina Hasan Secondary School, Sayyidina Husain Secondary School and Katok Secondary School.
Prior to departure, Her Majesty and members of the royal family also consented to a Junjung Ziarah by members of PPPBD.
The ceremony aimed to celebrate Her Majesty’s birthday and appreciate the contribution and services of lifelong members and further strengthen ties among its members.
