A 58-year-old local man will receive his sentence tomorrow, after he pleaded guilty to the charges on Wednesday and admitted to the facts in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Magistrate Mohammad Marzuqi bin Sabtu heard from Prosecutor Hajah ‘Adzimah Mukarramah binti Haji Salleh that Amat @ Mohamad bin Haji Jair stole a bag containing BND160, a passport, a car key and a mobile phone from a stall at Kampong Salambigar at 7am on August 7, 2019. He was standing near a stall claiming to be waiting for a friend when asked by the stall attendant what he was doing there.

When he saw the attendant was busy with her handbag on the table behind her, he took the handbag and checked it under the table. He found the bag containing the items and ran off to a nearby jungle.

He used the cash and sold the mobile phone. The stall attendant realised her bag had gone missing and lodged a police report leading to the defendant’s arrest.
