Labi longhouse treat for 62 youngsters

Some 62 Lower Six students from Geography Department of Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College’s (Maktab Duli)  made an excursion to Mendaram Besar long house in Mukim Labi in the Belait District recently.

Accompanied by eight tutors, the visit aimed to educate students on issues and challenges of growth in rural settlements including the impact of internal migration.

Legislative Council member and Acting Village Head of Mukim Labi Yang Berhormat Hanapi bin Mohd Siput and Tuai (Chief) of the longhouse Berandi anak Jamau welcomed them.

The students learnt about Mukim Labi and the history of the longhouse during the visit. Mukim Labi is divided into Labi 1 with nine villages and Labi 2 with six villages. There are two active longhouses in Mukim Labi, the Mendaram Besar and Teraja longhouses.

The students also participated in several activities such as weaving, animal-hunting using blowpipe and performing the traditional dance Tarian Ngajat. The visit was also enlivened with a live performance of Kuntau, an ethnic martial art.
