Jail, whipping for overstaying Indonesians

The Magistrate’s Court yesterday handed sentences to seven Indonesian nationals after they pleaded guilty to overstaying in the country.

Four women, Musfirah, 49, received nine months’ jail for overstaying 1,596 days, Rita Tursiti, 42, received nine months’ jail for overstaying 1,136 days, Miswati, 49, received nine months’ jail for overstaying 2,229 days and Furwati binti Semin Ramat, 46, received eight months’ jail for overstaying 681 days.

The men, Agus Fitrianto, 39, was sentenced to six months’ jail with three whippings for overstaying 1,529 days and Mirwanto, 28, was jailed six months with three whipping for overstaying 1,553 days. Legimin, 56, was sentenced to nine months’ jail for overstaying 2,230 days.

Immigration Prosecutor Adi Yusra bin Haji Adanan informed Magistrate Mohammad Marzuqi bin Sabtu that the defendants were arrested during a raid on rented quarters in Kampong Anggerek Desa, Kampong Delima Satu and Kampong Delima Dua on October 10.

All defendants were found to hold expired visit passes.
