The Indian Association of Belait (IAB) recently celebrated its 70th anniversary and Deepavali Nite 2019, in a colourful event at the Pusat Insani in Seria, attended by over 850 people. High Commissioner of India to Brunei Darussalam Ajaneesh Kumar was welcomed to the venue by IAB President Salim Abdul Karim.

Ajaneesh Kumar announced that books would be donated for the rejuvenation of the IAB’s library and for the benefit of its members.

The event continued with a Powerpoint presentation by Vice President of IAB Renjit Gopalakrishnan on the history of the IAB and its various activities including blood donations, Hari Raya gatherings, charity work, Gandhi Jayanti and cricket tournaments.

Following the cutting of the anniversary cake, several traditional dances representing India’s multicultural and diverse society enlivened the event. The event also saw the presentation of a donation to the Belait District Orphans’ Fund.

IAB General Secretary Chandra Mohan expressed his thanks to the Indian community, several local companies and organisations for helping to conduct the event.
