Setia Motors Sdn Bhd, the distributor of Hyundai vehicles in Brunei Darussalam, unveiled two latest models under the high performance ‘N’ brand – the i30 N and i30 Fastback N – at its Beribi showroom last Saturday.

Both models mark the premier of the new Hyundai N high performance range. N represents the city of Namyang, home to the global R&D centre of the Korean carmaker. It also stands for Nurburgring, where the car was honed and the N symbolises a racetrack’s chicane curve.

The i30 N offers exclusive engine performance and technological advances to satisfy any performance-oriented enthusiast, while the i30 Fastback N shares the same blueprint as the i30 N, however, it has received a unique sloping roofline (coupe).

These models display a blistering performance with a 2.0L direct injection turbo engine providing up to 275hp.

It features an ‘over boost’ setting that temporarily increase torque by seven per cent for about 18 seconds.

It also comes equipped with front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission with a carbon synchroniser ring and a strong clutch.

The sporty designs elements come after years of development, making the cars aggressive but without compromising aerodynamics. The unique Cascading Grille and exclusive 18″ or 19″ wheels are embossed with the N logos, while the high performance brakes have red N callipers to distinguish its identity on the roads.

Developed in-house, the traction and stability control is like a good co-pilot, helping when necessary but otherwise being quiet, never disturbing the driving fun. If desired, it can be switched off completely.

At the push of a button, drivers can select between five distinct drive modes to match your mood: Eco, Normal, Sport, N and N Custom.

From the safety aspect, the car come with Hyundai’s SmartSense – a cutting edge Advance Driving Assistance system for a more safety and peace of mind. Among them include the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collison Warning (FCW) and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA).

Present to unveil the i30 N and 130 Fastback N was Setia Motors General Manager James Chin, while the detailed presentation of the car was conducted by Senior Sales and Marketing official Fadhillah bin Sulaiman.

James also present keys to two new owners of the N brand models.

Meanwhile, an exclusive test-drive event was also held yesterday for 35 drivers, comprising prospective customers, car enthusiasts and a local automotive journalist.

The full-day event was an opportunity for drivers to experience first-hand both vehicles on local roads. Each driver had a full 20 minutes session to test the suspension, handling and acceleration of the high performance production cars developed by Hyundai.

Brunei is the only market in ASEAN to receive the latest N models. Almost 3,00 i30 N units were sold in the first half of 2018 in Europe, while 100 more were sold in Germany.
