Haji Md Haikal Qarin adds another title with Handicap Points triumph

Haji Md Haikal Qarin bin Haji Haironi Hamizin added a trophy to his growing collection after he emerged winner of the FJ 9-Ball Handicap Points Tournament 2019 at the Master Alim Pool Café in Kiulap last Sunday.

The local star cruised to a 7-2 victory over Hemran bin Jalil in the final.

The semi-finalists were Md Amir Hassan bin Haji Kamis and Fadia Nurul Huda binti Haji Ibrahim. They also received medals for their top-four finishes.

En route to the final, Haji Md Haikal Qarin defeated Aris Aldos 7-3 in the last 16 and edged Haji Haironi 7-6 in the quarter-finals to make the last four.

Haji Md Haikal survived a tight encounter when he edged Amir Hassan 7-6 to move into the title decider.

Beaten finalist Hemran, on the other hand, beat Muhid 7-2 in the last 16 before coming out on top with a 7-3 win against Asrizal Asnan in the quarterfinals.

He continued his good form with a 7-4 win against Fadia Nurul Huda in the semi-final.

The tournament drew 40 participants, illustrating the high number of participation from the pool community.

The players were ranked accordingly through a handicap point system. Skill level of each participant was determined by the Tournament Director.

The qualifying rounds were held in the first two days of the competition while the main event was held on the final day of the competition.

The qualifying round was contested in a double knock-out format while the knock-out and final round was played in a single elimination format.

Eight qualifiers from each day of qualifying advanced to the final round of the competition, where they played down to a winner.

Manager of Master Alim Pengiran Md Faiq Hafizuddin bin Pengiran Haji Jalaludin presented the prizes.

The tournament was organised by Master Alim Pool Brunei and supported by the Brunei Darussalam Cue Sports Association, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
