The Breast Cancer is Preventable and Curable Forum was held at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Mosque yesterday, in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2019.
The event was organised by the Brunei Breast Cancer Support Group (BBCSG) in cooperation with the Muslimah Guidance Class of the UBD Mosque, the Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre (PJSC) and the Health Promotion Centre at the Ministry of Health (MoH).
Acting Director of Health Services at the MoH Dr Hajah Rafidah binti Haji Gharif was the guest of honour.
The event opened with a Dikir and Tausyeh performance by the Muslimah Guidance Class, and the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat. BBCSG President and Head of the Muslimah Guidance Class of the UBD Mosque Hajah Aminah binti Haji Momin delivered a welcoming speech as event chairwoman.
She highlighted that the forum was held to disseminate the message of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign, and to remind women to conduct self- examinations from time to time.
Five hundred participants comprising mosque Muslimah from all four districts as well as 100 officers from the government and private sectors, and women’s associations participated in the forum.
The event continued with a discussion by Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) Lecturer Haji Sammali bin Haji Adam, PJSC Oncologist Dr Raden Mas Jeffri bin Raden Mas Ismail, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital Breast Specialist Surgeon Dr Hajah Amalinda binti Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Suyoi, breast cancer survivor Suryani binti Haji Abu Bakar and forum facilitator Dr Hajah Mas Rina Wati binti Haji Abdul Hamid.
The event included a briefing, breast self–examination demonstration, and a health exhibition.
