Kampong Pelambayan residents came together to collect donations for one of their own, who lost his home and belongings to a fire on September 30.

The donation handover was held at the residence of Kampong Pelambayan Village Head Haji Hanipah bin Begawan Pehin Udana Khatib Haji Junit.

Brunei-Muara District Officer and guest of honour Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim handed over the donations, while Legislative Council member and Penghulu of Mukim Kota Batu Yang Berhormat Naim bin Haji Kamis handed over the daily necessities.

The recipients – Haji Manan bin Haji Md Yusof, Aziman bin Haji Md Yusof and Malizah binti Haji Md Yusof – received donations valued at BND1,575.

Haji Manan expressed his appreciation for the donation. Recalling the day of the fire, he said, “I had just picked up my kid from school around 6.30pm and we were on the upper floor. My son yelled, ‘There’s smoke coming up.’ I went downstairs to have a look and the fire had already spread. We manage to escape from the fire, but we lost everything – including important documents.

“Our family of six, plus my sister and brother have lost our home. At present, we are staying at the Belimbing Welfare Home Complex under the Community Development Department. We still don’t have a place to call home. We hope the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam can assist us in providing a permanent home.”
