The family of the late Pehin Datu Temenggong Dato Seri Paduka Lim Teck Hoo is continuing his legacy of helping Chinese education and culture in Brunei Darussalam.
His sons Dato Paduka Lim Beng Thai, Lim Beng Cheng and Lim Ming Kiat presented a total of BND50,000 to eight Chinese schools and BND2,000 to the Brunei Chinese Chess Association yesterday.
The schools are Chung Hwa Middle School of Bandar Seri Begawan (CHMS BSB) – BND20,000; Chung Ching Middle School (CCMS) Seria and Chung Hua Middle School Kuala Belait (CHMS KB) – BND10,000 each. Also included were Chung Hwa School Labi (CHS Labi), Chung Lian School Sungai Liang (CLS Sungai Liang), Chung Hwa School Tutong (CHS Tutong), Chung Hwa School Kiudang (CHS Kiudang) and Pai Yuek School Temburong (PYS Temburong) – BND2,000 each.
Legislative Council member and Chairman of the Board of Directors at CHMS BSB Yang Berhormat Ong Tiong Oh thanked the family of the late Pehin Datu Temenggong Dato Seri Paduka Lim Teck Hoo, on behalf of the recipients. He recalled the vast contributions of the late Pehin Datu Temenggong Dato Seri Paduka Lim Teck Hoo in helping CHMS BSB to overcome its financial difficulties in the 1970s.
“The undying spirit of concern for the development of Chinese education and culture continues through the family of the late Pehin Datu Temenggong Dato Seri Paduka Lim Teck Hoo,” he said.
Earlier, Lim Ming Kiat emphasised the growing importance of Chinese education and culture, saying, “I hope that the younger generation will become more involved in the board of directors at Chinese schools, for their continuing development in this country.”
