The Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) organised the first Digital Skills Training programme for senior citizens at the Senior Citizen Activity Centre (PKWE), RPN Kampong Lambak Kanan from October 8-10.
The programme was attended by 17 senior citizens, aimed at assisting the participants to become digital savvy so they can benefit from technology.
The three-day programme was conducted with the cooperation from both the government and the private sectors with presentations and practical demonstrations by trainers and facilitators including from the Department of Curriculum Development, Ministry of Education; IT Protective Security Services Sdn Bhd (ITPSS), Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) as well as representatives from local companies such as DotRoot Technologies, Naindah.com and Rotuku.com.
The programme covered various topics including basic ICT skills, online safety and security, introduction to and opportunities in e-Commerce, useful mobile applications, online shopping as well as online banking.
The Digital Skills training concluded with the presentation of certificate by Legislative Council member and Penghulu of Mukim Berakas ‘B’ Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Ali bin Pengiran Maon.
Also present was Chief Executive of AITI Pengiran Haji Mohd Zain bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Razak. AITI will organise similar programmes to senior citizens from other mukims and districts in the coming months.
It is hoped that the programme will provide an awareness for the senior citizens on the importance of being digital savvy so they understand how digital technology can make life easier, better and more convenient.
The programme was a continuation from the Youth in e-Commerce Programme held in August 2019.
