The Ministry of Education (MoE) hosted the 12th Joint Working Group Meeting (JWG) between Brunei Darussalam and the Ministry of Education of Singapore. Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin co-chaired the meeting with Permanent Secretary (Education) at the Ministry of Education, Singapore Lai Chung Han. Joining the meeting were senior officers from both ministries.
The annual meeting held reciprocally between the two ministries provided a platform for sharing recent and ongoing education initiatives and development as well as best practices and approaches in education.
The meeting also discussed collaborative educational programmes and activities between the two countries. MoE Brunei Darussalam shared the administration of Brunei Student Assessment Tracker (SAT) and its assessment design while Singapore’s Ministry of Education shared its recent initiative on the phased implementation of subject-based banding as well as the efforts by a ministerial-level taskforce to help disadvantaged students.
MoE Brunei Darussalam also briefed on the transformation of Human Resource Division to the Department of Educators Management where as Ministry of Education of Singapore shared about its career tracks for Singapore Education Service.
Existing collaborations were reviewed and progress of programmes and activities under the joint working group initiatives reported at the meeting such as the school twinning programmes between primary and secondary schools of the two countries, the Brunei-Singapore School Leadership Programme; and the Malay Language Immersion Programme for Singapore Teachers. Prior to the meeting, the Singapore delegation visited Lambak Kanan Jalan 49 Primary School and Raja Isteri Girls High School (STPRI) in the morning.
