Youth urged to come up with fresh ideas

Brunei Fuzhou Shiyyi Association President Jackson Ting called on the younger generation to participate more in the association’s activities yesterday.

He told them to learn from one another to come up with young and fresh ideas and work hard for the association.

Speaking at the official opening of the Brunei Fuzhou Shiyyi Association building, valued at BND7 million, Jackson said the association is like a tree.

“Like a tree reaching out to the sky, the association can achieve success through the support and constant nourishing from all members. For the tree to remain strong and sturdy, we need to nurture it. Therefore, we must strengthen our resolve and contribute to nurture our association, selflessly and contribute to promote sustainability and growth,” he said.

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah officiated the opening of the building.

Located at Simpang 507, Berakas, the new building has 10 shop units on the ground floor and 10 units of offices on the top floor.

The second hall has a basketball court which can be converted into a multipurpose hall.

Upon arrival, Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew was welcomed by Jackson Ting. They posed for a group photograph with guests and Brunei Fuzhou Shiyyi Association members in front of the building.

Jackson added, “Seven years have passed since the founding of the Fuzhou Shiyyi Association in 2012. The seven years can be considered short but during that time, we have grown. We have undergone a journey that we can be proud of.

“We began with nothing. Fortunately, with the efforts and support from local Bruneians and international friends we overcame seven years of difficulties. We are also fortunate to have a group of people that are not only entrepreneurs but also hardworking. Through the combination of ingenuity and perseverance, we have built our way forward with the construction of the new building. The milestone and success belongs to everyone.”

Following the opening of the building, the minister also participated in the opening of the meeting rooms and the multipurpose hall.

At the multipurpose hall, Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew also launched a book to commemorate the Brunei Fuzhou Shiyyi Association’s seventh anniversary. He also presented certificates of appreciation to the sponsors.

Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Ong Tiong Oh and spouse; Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong and spouse Yu Jie, and Brunei Fuzhou Shiyyi Association Deputy President Dr Andy Lau were also present.

Over 400 guests from China, the United States, Japan, Thailand, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong participated. Also present were members of the World Federation of Fuzhou Association, the Malaysian Fuzhou Association, the Sarawak Association of Fuzhou Associations and the Sabah Federation of Fuzhou.
