Young calligraphers make their mark

A total of 92 students from Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) Primary School were feted recently for their achievement in a Chinese calligraphy competition organised by the China Youth Art & Calligraphy Association.

16 students received gold medals, 34, silver medals and 42, bronze medals. Winners also received certificates presented by the school’s Acting CEO and Principal Hajah Mariam binti Haji Ladi.

The event continued with the presentation of a recognition throphy by Head of the Mandarin Department Irene Wong to Hajah Mariam.

Mandarin teacher Kailene Kashfi said the main goal of the competition was to instil an interest in Chinese culture among the students.

“I am also very happy that this year’s results have improved from last year,” added Kailene. Last year around 70 students received medals and certificates.
