Three foreigners, one company fined for littering

Three foreign nationals caught littering in public were each slapped with a BND100 compound fine by the Licensing and Enforcement Unit of the Brunei-Muara District Office recently.

Bangladeshi nationals Sayed Ahmed and Shahed, as well as Filipino national Elisa Bisnar Abayhon were caught red-handed littering at the Electrical Sub-Station in Kampong Sengkurong.

Meanwhile, in Belait, compound fines were issued to an individual and company yesterday for similar offences.

The Enforcement Division of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board issued a BND100 fine to Benjamin Foo Chuan Kwang for irresponsibly littering at a public area not designated for the disposal of trash located at Pasar Lama, Kuala Belait. Yong Sok General Contractor, a company based in the Anduki Area was slapped with a fine of BND500 by the by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) for leaving trash in a public area.

Under Chapter 30, Section 12 (1) of the Minor Offences Act, all the individuals and the company were given seven days to settle the fine or they may face a BND1,000 fine for the first offence and BND3,000 for subsequent offences and jail term of not more than three months.

The Brunei-Muara District Office, Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board, as well as JASTRe reminded the public to always keep the surrounding environment clean and dispose trash only at designated areas.
