Scouts plant saplings, fulfil role as messengers of peace

The Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association (PPNBD) held a sapling planting campaign in conjunction with the International Day of Peace at the Brunei Darussalam Tree Planting Project Site at KM12, Kampong Sungai Mau, Jalan Labi-Liang, Mukim Bukit Sawat in the Belait District.

President of PPNBD Haji Metussin bin Orang Kaya Sura Haji Tuba, who was the guest of honour, officiated the event.

The event began with the recitation of Doa followed by a remark from the Acting Chief Commissioner of PPNBD Haji Matassim bin Haji Duraman.

A total of 50 saplings were planted.

The objective of the event was to commemorate the International Day of Peace and support the Sustainable Development Goals initiatives under the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and World Organization of the Scout Movement.

The sapling planting programme was introduced to raise scout members’ awareness on the importance of the environment and as part of the ‘Messenger of Peace Initiative’, a global programme involving scouts to contribute to the concept of peace.

Also present were members of the National Scout Council and district scout council, scout commissioners, assistant district commissioners, scout leaders, assistant scout leaders and scout members.
