Rimba II Secondary School and Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna Secondary School (SMPAPHM) emerged as the champions in the men’s and women’s categories of the Firefighting Skills Competition for Fire Cadets at the Fire and Rescue Training Centre in Kampong Perpindahan Lambak Kanan yesterday.
The Fire and Rescue Training Centre and the Department of Co-Curriculum Education organised the competition.
The guest of honour, Acting Assistant Director of Operations of the Fire and Rescue Department Abdul Hadi Zulfadli bin Haji Yahya, presented prizes to the winning schools.
A total of 75 fire cadets in 15 teams of seven men’s teams and eight women’s teams from nine secondary schools and colleges in the country competed.
Sayyidina Hasan Secondary School, Sayyidina Husain Secondary School, Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam Secondary School, Rimba II Secondary School, Sultan Sharif Ali Secondary School, SMPAPHM, Sayyidina Ali Secondary School, Sayyidina Abu Bakar Secondary School and Anthony Abell College were among the participating schools.
The objectives were to provide exposure to a wide range of tasks and responsibilities related to fire safety aspects; take precautionary measures and extinguish fire incidents before the arrival of firefighters; build agility, physical and mental endurance and train cadets to be fit and efficient; learn how to extinguish fire in the form of physical competency skills competence and speed of hydrant precision skills.
It is also to cultivate a spirit of teamwork, strong and courageous attitude, discipline, self-confidence and positive self-concept, as well as to demonstrate the capabilities of a team leader in giving directions.
Participants were also required to wear personal protective equipment, helmets, boots and gloves.
Principals and supervising teachers also participated in a special fire hydrant precision competition. It was won by School Leaders after defeating Cadet Supervisory Teachers of the Fire and Rescue Department.
