About 400 officers and staff of the Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) including teachers from schools, colleges, higher learning and technical education institutions attended a Surah Yaasiin recitation and Tahlil ceremony held in conjunction with the upcoming 29th Teacher’s Day celebration at the Royal Mausoleum in Jalan Tutong yesterday.
Organised by the two ministries, the religious ceremony was for Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Bendahara Pengiran Anak Abdul Rahman, the late parents of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
In attendance were Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman and Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman who are also the Co-Chairmen of the Executive Committee for the 29th Teacher’s Day celebration.
Also present were Permanent Secretary at the MoRA Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Yussof; Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the MoE Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad and other executive committee members as well as senior officers from both ministries.
The mass recitation of Surah Yaasiin was led by Religious Education Officer at the MoRA Pengiran Mohamad Aminuddin bin Pengiran Haji Hussin who also led the recitation of Tahlil and Doa Arwah.
Themed ‘Pendidikan Berkualiti Asas Kecemerlangan Pelajar’, the Teacher’s Day celebration will take place at the Plenary Hall of the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas on September 23.
A Doa Kesyukuran for the celebration will take place on September 21 at the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the capital while similar events for schools under MoE and MoRA will take place on the same day.
