Local kickboxers shine at Malaysia meet

Azlan Othman

Bruneian Mohamad Adi Syarani bin Roslan from Jeonsa Academy triumphed at the Any Martial Arts (AMA) kickboxing competition at Ecurve Mutiara in Damansara, Malaysia recently.

The 20-year-old local won by knockout against 20-year-old Malaysian Muhammad Umar bin Osman from Kawanboxx Putrajaya Wilayah who has Muay Thai background.

Another local, 28-year-old Mohd Yazid bin Mohd Taib who is Head Coach of Jeonsa Academy, won by unanimous decision in a match against 21-year old Lim Soon Rong from Wushudao Academy who has Sanda background.

Mohd Yazid and Mohamad Adi Syarani will join the AMA Final Battle on November 24, fighting for the Super Belt in their respective weight category against international fighters.

They were supposed to fight in the strike event scheduled in August but the event was cancelled due to no proper support for the combat sports scene in Brunei. Hence, they were forced to fight in overseas competition. Both were grateful to sponsors as well as the local combat sports events that have been held locally, such as the events by Strike Promotions at The Airport Mall and Jerudong Park Amphitheatre, and boxing competition held by House of Fitness, for the experience.

The duo was also grateful for the support from local mixed martial art gyms in helping them improve their sparring skills.
