A local man was sentenced to six months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to a charge of theft from a dwelling.
DPP Raihan Nabilah binti Haji Ahmad Ghazali revealed in court how Muhammad Norabidin bin Muhammad Noradam, 26, had stolen a 2GB Sandisk Micro SD card and a silver pen drive from a residence at Jalan Kayu Sumah, Kampong Perumahan Bukit Beruang at 1.20am on September 8, 2019.
Chief Magistrate Pengiran Masni binti Pengiran Haji Bahar heard that the defendant entered the house through a window which he had shaken until it came loose.
It was a CCTV camera that caught the defendant red-handed, after a notification had been sent to the owner’s mobile phone.
The owner, who was at his mother’s house at the time, received still-captures of the defendant entering the house.
At 8.10am, the owner went home and found the items missing.
He lodged a police report which led to the defendant’s arrest.
Investigations showed that the defendant realised his presence was recorded by a CCTV camera and took the memory cards to get rid of the evidence.
