Local jailed for Sariqah offences

The Syariah High Court recently sentenced a local man to three years’ imprisonment for three Sariqah (theft) offences.

Abdul Hafiz bin Haji Muhammad Irwan was convicted of stealing a bumper, double-DIN radio and car meter from a vehicle parked at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital parking lot; four sports rims and tyres from a vehicle parked along Jalan Roberts; and four sports rims with tyres and a double-DIN radio from a vehicle parked in the Gadong commercial area.

Abdul Hafiz was also ordered to pay a compensation of BND150 to the victim whose possessions were never recovered, while the recovered items were ordered to be returned to the owners.

In handing down the sentence, the Syariah High Court Judge reminded Abdul Hafiz that theft is a serious offence under Hukum Syara’.

The Syariah Prosecutor of the Syariah Prosecution Unit under the Ministry of Religious Affairs prosecuted.
