Local company in Kuala Belait fined for littering

The Enforcement Unit of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board issued a compound fine to a local company, for littering in a public place.

Syarikat Haji Omar Abdullah received a BND200 compound fine for irresponsibly disposing trash including cardboard boxes, broken tiles and used bags of cement at a public area behind the Pengiran Haji Besar Dan Anak-Anak Building, Pandan 7, Kuala Belait.

This is a violation of the Chapter 30, Section 12 (1) (a) of the Minor Offences Act.

The company was given seven days to settle the compound fines. Failure to comply will result in prosecution in court.

If convicted, a fine of BND1,000 will be imposed for the first fine, and BND3,000 for subsequent offences and imprisonment not exceeding three months.

The Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board reminded companies and the public to properly dispose garbage in designated areas and not dispose them in public areas.

The public can contact the Enforcement Unit of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board at 8896108 to lodge complaints with regard to disposal of garbage in public areas.
