Librarians enhance skills

A Certificate Presentation ceremony for the Library Staff Development Programme (LSDP) 2019 was held at the Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) Library Complex on Thursday, according to a UTB press release.

Acting Registrar and Secretary of UTB Elizah binti Radin Mas Ismail was the guest of honour. Senior Librarian of UTB Library Hajah Pusparaini binti Haji Thani, university staff and guests were also present.

A total of 44 participants from 16 libraries around the country received their certificates from the guest of honour.

The programme comprised seven workshops that took place from September 7-25 at the Training Room of UTB Library Complex.

It was facilitated by Thulasimani Munohsamy, who has 20 years of experience in teaching and training in Brunei and overseas.

The programme aimed to enhance the organisational and communication skills, work effectively in a team and explore self-management techniques among librarians and information workers in the country.

Another event, the UTB Library Book Bazaar (ULBB) 2019, was organised at the UTB Library in conjunction with the 6th UTB Convocation Festival.

This year, eight vendors joined the bazaar such as Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA); Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB); National Standard Centre from the Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry (MEMI); the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP); Early Childhood Publications Co; Joy Sim Collection; Asfi Book World Sdn Bhd; and

The festival saw books, stationery, apparels and food sold. Some book genres sold at the bazaar include education, religion, Brunei history, food recipes and children’s books.

The bazaar was held to enrich the library collection with the latest published academic books, references and general topics on different fields and to enhance the community awareness on the empowerment of knowledge and reading culture.

The bazaar was held from September 24 to 28 except on September 27 at the UTB Library Complex. The ULBB was open to staff and students of the university, as well as the public.
