Prosecutors yesterday pressed a charge of murder on a local married couple naming them suspects in a case linked to a viral message regarding skeletal remains of a baby at a house in Kampong Salambigar.

Kasim bin Omar, 32, and wife Siti Noraliza binti Haji Abdullah, 29, are alleged to have murdered a five-month and 24 days’ old baby girl at a house in Kampong Salambigar on May 29, 2018.

No plea was taken by Senior Magistrate Lailatul Zubaidah binti Haji Mohd Hussain from the couple.

DPP Nor Hafizah binti Ahmad informed that further investigations are needed, including a psychological evaluation of the defendants and a post-mortem report on the child.

The court adjourned the case to September 28, 2019 for further mention.

The couple is facing a death penalty.

Meanwhile, Acting Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Royal Brunei Police Force ACP Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Hassan bin Pehin Penyurat Haji Ahmad said the couple were detained following the discovery of the skeletal remains on Friday.
