The opening ceremony for the 5th Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) Sports Fiesta was held at the UTB Multipurpose Hall yesterday. UTB Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic),

The event began with recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and opening speech by Chairperson of the 5th UTB Sports Fiesta Muhammad Haziq bin Haji Hamzulani, followed by the guest of honour launching the ceremony. The event continued with the flag-hoisting of the four teams – Xlr8 (Blue), Crtiv (Grey), Pro-Xtiv (Purple) and Xcel (Yellow). President of the Frisbee Club Abdul Ilaah bin Anver led the sports pledge.

The 5th UTB Sports Fiesta will be held for about five weeks from September 12 to October 14 comprising touch rugby, basketball, dodgeball, frisbee, e-sports (online gaming), futsal, netball, badminton, volleyball, tug-of-war, and track and field. The sporting events will take place at various venues including the UTB Multipurpose Hall, Silver Jubilee Court, Public Works Department (JKR) Multipurpose Hall, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Sports Complex, Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex, the Brunei Basketball Association Basketball Court, and Jerudong Sports Complex.

The UTB Sports Fiesta is a biennial sports event organised by the Sports Executive Committees (Exco), one of the executive committees under the UTB Student Representative Council.

With the Sports Exco’s vision of bringing people together and to expose new students to what university life has to offer, this year’s slogan for the 5th Sports Fiesta will be ‘Discover Your Truest Potential’ that aims to identify hidden sports talents among students who have potential in representing UTB in sports events either locally, regionally or internationally.
