Fostering ties through Wushu

A nine-member delegation from Nanjing Sports Bureau from Nanjing, the capital of China’s eastern Jiangsu province, the People’s Republic of China, concluded their visit to Brunei Darussalam on a high note with the promise of working further together to build on closer relationship and cooperation in the sportof Wushu.

In the farewell reception hosted by the Brunei Darussalam Wushu Federation, Deputy Inspector of Nanjing Sports Bureau and head of the delegation Liu Junlin said, “During the People’s Republic of China President Xi Jinping’s State Visit to Brunei Darussalam in November 2018, both sides also welcomed the renewal of the Bandar Seri Begawan and Nanjing Sister City Relationship.

“Nanjing is the only city in China that has a sister city relationship with Brunei Darussalam.”

He added, “We place great importance on further building cooperation and ties with Brunei Darussalam, especially in Wushu. We visited the Brunei Darussalam Wushu Federation and saw the training conducted by Brunei’s wushu athletes. The training has given me a deep impression and understanding of how we can move forward to cooperate in the future.

“Wushu possesses a huge potential to further progress and develop. We are ready to cooperate to further help build the sport in the country.”

The Nanjing delegation also included Director of the General Office of Nanjing Sports Bureau Zhao Bing, Researcher of Gaochun District Culture and Tourism Bureau, Nanjing Wang Xiaolei, Deputy Chief Section member from the General Office of Nanjing Municipal People’s Government Li Haofeng and Interpreter from Foreign Affairs Office of Nanjing Municipal People’s Government Tang Qin.

Also from Nanjing were students from Gaochun Experimental Primary School, Nanjing – Tang Jingyun, Xia Yuchen, Qian Aoyun and Kong Beilei – who also demonstrated their wushu skills before Liu Junlin and Brunei Darussalam Wushu Federation President Lim Boon Hwa.

Lim Boon Hwa in his farewell speech during the reception touched on the historical ties between Nanjing and Brunei Darussalam.
