Farewell reception for Chevening scholar

Investment Officer at Brunei Investment Agency (BIA) and Chairman and founder of Society for Community Outreach and Training (SCOT) Mohd Anwar bin Haji Mohammad has been awarded the prestigious Chevening scholarship funded by the British Government.

British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Richard Lindsay hosted a reception for Mohd Anwar at his residence in Jalan Kota Batu yesterday.

Mohd Anwar will begin his fully funded postgraduate studies in MSc (Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship) at the London School of Economics (LSE), in the United Kingdom. The LSE is ranked second in the world for Social Sciences and Management.

Mohd Anwar, in his speech, said that receiving the Chevening Scholarship is a great honour and will allow him to advance his qualification at one of the top 10 universities in the world, which has also been one of his dreams.

He added that the post-graduate course will allow him to explore the rapidly developing field of social innovation investments.

He looks forward to contributing towards the practicality, governance and inclusivity of Social Enterprise investments in Brunei.

The high commissioner congratulated Mohd Anwar who will soon be joining over 2,000 Chevening scholars from across the world in starting their fully funded year of post-graduate study in the United Kingdom.

Mohd Anwar was welcomed into the Chevening family by the President of the Brunei Chevening Alumni Association and Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari, who was a Chevening scholar in 2014-2015, and other alumni members.

The high commissioner also announced that applications for the Chevening Scholarship for next academic year (2020-2021) are now open.
