More than 90 scout members nationwide participated in a field trip to the Brunei Arts and Handicrafts Training Centre in Bandar Seri Begawan and the Marine Biodiversity Centre at Meragang Beach, in conjunction with the First Girl Scouts Camp.

The visit was led by Skipper Hajah Nor Rahmat binti Haji Sidin as Camp Commander and Women’s Scout Commissioner.

The visit saw Brunei Arts and Handicrafts Training Centre officer briefing the participants.

They later observed traditional handicraft activities such as the making of Jongsarat (hand-woven cloth made from gold and silver threads), menganyam (Weaving), silvercraft, bronzecraft, the art of Keris-making, Tasbih-making and the making of Batik as well as Songkok.

The visit aimed to educate the scout members about the history and background of the centre and to take a closer look at the traditional handicrafts as well as to give exposure to the courses offered at the centre.

The participants also visited the Marine Biodiversity Centre at Meragang Beach where they were briefed on different species of sea turtles found in Brunei waters as well as conservation projects in Brunei.
