The closing ceremony of the Brunei Darussalam Youth Cultural Exchange and Conference 2019 (BDYCEC 2019) was held at the Kuala Belait Convention Centre, Jalan McKerron yesterday.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin was the guest of honour.
He was welcomed by Belait Youth Association (PEMBELA) President and Chairperson of the BDYCEC 2019 Atikah Rumaizah binti Dr Haji Harun.
With 114 participants comprising youth from the Belait, Tutong, and Brunei-Muara Districts, as well as 10 delegates from Padang, West Sumatra of the Republic of Indonesia, the exchange and conference, organised by PEMBELA in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), aimed at providing opportunities, especially for youth, to exchange cultural arts and knowledge.
The exchange which started with plenary sessions leading into discussions among the youth in groups, led them to compile the discussion into a presentation delivered by the group leaders during the closing ceremony.
Among the theme the youth discussed over the two-day event included ‘Cultural Art Talent as Job Opportunities and Tourism Products’, ‘Discovering and Sustaining Culture As Heritage’, and ‘Enriching and Evolution of Culture and Arts’.
Each group leaders presented their discussions to the guest of honour and PEMBELA President during the closing ceremony. Atikah Rumaizah delivered a brief overview and objectives of the exchange and conference. She expressed her gratitude to the minister for his support of the event conducted in the Belait District.
The guest of honour also toured the various booths showcasing cultural heritage found across the country.
A series of cultural performances by locals and Indonesian delegates, accompanied by live music performances, were also held.
The PEMBELA President presented the minister with the resolution, which contained discussions and topics generated by the youth over the course of the exchange and conference. The Indonesian delegates also presented the minister with a gift.
Certificates were presented to the participating youth. The ceremony concluded with a group photo and breakaway session, where the minister met with the youth participants and Indonesian delegates to learn more about their experience during the two-day youth exchange and conference.
