Two compound fines were issued to a local company and an individual for unauthorised waste dumping at public areas.

Fu Yun Yuan Contractor was issued a compound fine of BND500 by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) for disposing unwanted leftovers at an open space at Kampong Sungai Bera where the company was allegedly to have extracted sand yesterday. The offence is a violation of Chapter 30, Section 12 (1) (e) of the Minor Offences Act.

The company was given seven days to settle the compound fine or face court with a fine of BND1,000, or a month’s imprisonment, for the first offence; with further penalty of BND3,000 fine and a prison term of up to three months for subsequent offences.

Meanwhile, an individual was issued a compound fine of BND100 by the Enforcement Division of the Belait District Office for placing and leaving unwanted items at a public area without authorisation on September 24.

JASTRe and the Enforcement Division reminded companies as well as members of the public to be responsible and to not dump waste at public places, and to dispose them at designated places.

Patrols will be conducted continuously to prevent such incidents. Members of the public who wish to lodge complaints regarding improper rubbish disposal can contact the division on their hotline at 3334335.
