Brunei, Indonesia to enhance cooperation

The Minister of Development of Brunei Darussalam and the Minister of National Development Planning of the Republic of Indonesia pledged that their respective ministries would work closer for the benefit of their countries.

Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar who is in Jakarta, Indonesia to attend the 37th Conference of Federation of ASEAN Engineering Organisations (CAFEO), paid a courtesy call to his counterpart Minister of National Development Planning of the Republic of Indonesia Professor Dr Bambang Permadi Soemantri Brodjonegoro on Wednesday.

During the courtesy call, the ministers exchanged ideas on trade fundamentals, vision and mission of the ministries and challenges they face. Regarding Indonesia’s move to relocate capital from Jakarta to East Kalimantan, the Indonesian minister said that research is undergoing to prepare for a master plan for the new capital.

The Minister of Development visited the ASEAN Secretariat Headquarters on Thursday. ASEAN Secretary-General Dato Paduka Lim Jock Hoi welcomed the minister.

The minister, after briefed on the ASEAN organisation structure, toured the Secretaries’ office, Conference Halls and other amenities at the headquarters.

The minister’s entourage in Indonesia included Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Indonesia Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Yussof bin Haji Abdul Rahman and Acting Director-General of Public Works Lim Sui Kau Alice as well as senior officers of the Ministry of Development.
