Brunei emerge overall champions of softball tournament

Brunei Darussalam softball teams were crowned overall champions of the 5th Ladies and 7th Men’s Masters Fastpitch Softball Brunei Darussalam (NBT Trophy) tournament 2019 yesterday, after the Brunei ladies’ softball team emerged as the winner and the Brunei men’s team came in third place in their respective competition.

President of the Brunei Amateur Baseball and Softball Association (BASBA) Pehin Orang Kaya Lela Pahlawan Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Mohd Jaafar bin Haji Abdul Aziz, the guest of honour, presented the prizes to the winners during the prize presentation ceremony at the Berakas Sports Complex.

The Brunei ladies’ softball team took first place after beating Singapore 4-2 in the finals yesterday. Third place went to Indonesia while Japan came in fourth place, Malaysia in fifth place and Hong Kong in sixth place.

In the 7th Men’s Masters Fastpitch Softball Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia emerged as champions after defeating Hong Kong in the finals with the score of 9-2.

The Brunei men’s team clinched third place with six points while Thailand grabbed fourth place after collecting three points.

Organised by BASBA in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the tournament attracted the participation from countries such as Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand as well as host Brunei Darussalam.
