The Jerudong Kedayan Heritage Association (WARISAN) held its first Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Multi-purpose hall of Jerudong Primary School yesterday.
Officiated by Special Duties Officer Grade II of the Brunei-Muara District Office Rosdin bin Haji Abdul Aziz as the guest of honour, the meeting was attended by association members comprising 250 Kedayan ethnic from Jerudong and other parts of the country.
In his opening speech, WARISAN Pro Tem Chairman Abdul Hamid bin Abas said the association was established with the goal of uniting all Kedayan ethnic groups in Jerudong as one large family through a range of activities and programmes on culture, education, sports, commercial agriculture and business, while at the same time preserving their cultural lifestyle and traditions.
Rosdin said that the establishment of WARISAN showed the determination of its committee members to unite and bring together the Kedayan ethnic groups of Kampong Jerudong.
“With the strong leadership and management of its members, it is hoped that this association will meet success in accordance with the aims and objectives of its establishment,” he said.
The meeting saw the official election of the association chairman and key executive members for 2019-2021.
WARISAN has a membership of 320, which is expected to increase to 400 in the coming months.
