Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof received a courtesy call from Commanding General of the Philippine Army Lieutenant General Macairog S Alberto yesterday.
The minister highlighted the excellent state of bilateral defence relations between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of the Philippines.
He also recalled his official visit to the Philippines last month and underlined the importance of enhancing bilateral ties in the interests of both countries and for the region.
Lieutenant General Macairog S Alberto also paid a visit to Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud. They discussed the military-to-military aspect of the bilateral relationship.
The Commanding General of the Philippine Army General also visited the RBAF Museum, Fighting in Built Up Areas (FIBUA) Village and RBAF Simulation Training Centre.
He also visited the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) at the RBLF Headquarters, Berakas Garrison.
The Commanding General of the Philippine Army was received by Commander of the RBLF Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawan Khairul Hamed bin Haji Lampoh. He proceeded with the inspection of the guard of honour mounted by the personnel of Second Battalion RBLF.
Lieutenant General Macairog S Alberto also paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the RBLF.
The courtesy call highlighted the close defence relations between the two countries; through exchange of visits and courses. Both sides also discussed other avenues to expand cooperation, particularly between the two services.
An official dinner hosted by the Commander of the RBLF was also held at the Officers’ Mess, Berakas Garrison.
It was attended by the Commandant of Training Institute, senior officers and officers of RBLF and their spouses.
Lieutenant General Macairog S Alberto will be in the country until today for an introductory visit after assuming command of the Philippine Army in October last year.
