Ten youth are participating in the practical of the Basic Water Rescue Training organised by the Youth Centre, which is held at the centre’s swimming pool in the capital until September 11.
The three-day training is conducted by certified instructor Haji Yussof bin Haji Mat Nor.
The activities during the training include briefings and water rescue training such as life-saving skills, 300m swimming endurance training (not more than nine minutes), swimming speed 50m (not more than 50 seconds), resuscitation skills and many more.
Yesterday, the participants learnt about the jumping position where they needed to keep their heads above the water to allow them to rescue a victim. They also learnt how to rescue a drowning victim using safety equipment.
Course Coordinator Aznin bin Haji Tahir said the training provided basic water rescue lessons.
“After they pass their training, they will be called to be part of the public safety committee in any water activity event organised by the Youth Centre,” he said.
