28 UTB top achievers receive awards

Twenty-eight students from Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) received the Dean’s list award 2018-2019 in recognition of their outstanding academic achievement and another four received the Co-Curricular Activities Award during an award ceremony at the Lecture Theatre 2, Library Complex, UTB yesterday.

Acting Minister of Education Datin Seri Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh presented the awards.

Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the MoE Dr Chin Wei Keh and senior officials were also present.

Acting Vice-Chancellor of UTB Haji Ady Syarmin bin Haji Md Taib said, “The award aims to give recognition and appreciation of the university on the achievement and excellence of students in their respective fields,” he said.

“Students who received the Dean’s list award have obtained as least 75 per cent overall marks and also among the programmes’ top five students in the last academic session.

“Based on these criteria, the recipients are excellent students in the field of academic and motivated by possessing positive outlook and high in discipline,” he added.

There are four categories for the Co-Curricular Activities Award – Outstanding Life Skills Achiever, Sports Man of UTB, Sports Woman of UTB and Religious Award.

Siti Nur Syazwani binti Haji Sabtu received the Outstanding Life Skills Achiever award, while Muhammd Amirul Azri bin Haji Amzah received the Sports Man of UTB award.

Meanwhile, the Sports Woman of UTB award was presented to Nurul Aqmal binti Abdul Jamal, and Louay Syaddie Haddag bin Abdul Gafur received the Religious Award.
