Veteran singers, performers bring back old hits

THE soothing sound of the yesteryears’ music heard from the stage alongside the night tamu of Tudong Saji in Kuala Belait recently as part of the Malam Kilauan Emas organised to further enliven the festive atmosphere of the 73rd birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, took the audience down memory lane in a nostalgic journey.

Organised by the Belait District Women’s Welfare Association (PKP) in collaboration with the Senior Citizens Support Awareness Group (PENYULUH), the event saw veteran singers and performers from the district gathering to deliver song and dance performance that were a hit from during their youth.

Chairperson of the Belait District’s PKP and PENYULUH Hajah Kertini binti Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Diraja Abang Haji Abu Hanifah said the performances not only served to further enliven the atmosphere in conjunction with His Majesty’s 73rd birthday celebration, but also helped appreciate the talents that can still be found among veteran singers and dancers.

She hoped attendees and youth from the surrounding area had the opportunity to take a peek into trending songs and dances from the past.

The performances included songs and dances by veteran singers and performers, as well as groups such as Nem Fitness and Sally’s Line Dance KB.

Some of the performances also saw audience participating on stage, not only enlivening the atmosphere further but also helping pass the knowledge of dancing to an oldies beat while having fun along the way.

The nightly performances were one of many events conducted every night in conjunction with His Majesty’s 73rd birthday celebration, with each night featuring a different performance by agencies or groups.
