Twin blasts rock remote southern Philippine village; soldier injured

MANILA (Bernama) – Twin blasts rocked a remote southern Philippine village yesterday morning, seriously wounding a soldier.

Xinhua news agency quoted Brigadier General Marni Marcos, Director of the Bangsamoro of Autonomous Region in Mindanao (BARMM) Regional Police, as saying that the injured soldier was hit by a second explosion while securing a first explosion site in Igasan, a village in Patikul town in Sulu province.

“The second explosion occurred some 10 metres away from the first explosion site,” Marcos said in a report.

The first blast occurred at 7.30am local time in Igasan. Nobody was hurt in the first incident, the report said.

The military sent its K9 unit to the site to investigate. While the team was on-site doing a clearing operation, the report said a second explosion occurred around 8.30am local time wounding a soldier.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
