Thirteen people caught littering during the Bandarku Ceria and Brunei Darussalam Regatta events in the capital yesterday were each fined BND100 during a joint operation codenamed Operasi Bersepadu Bersih 100/2019.
The joint operation was conducted by the Law Enforcement Unit of the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department and the Health Enforcement Division of the Ministry of Health (MoH).
The offenders were identified as Md Abu Hurairah bin Abdullah Md Suhaimi, a local citizen; Md Mukashir Mia, Manik Miah, Mohammad Shahirul Khan, Md Uzzal, Hasun, Riyad, Mohamad Ataur Rahman, Md Raihan, Md Mozammal Hoque and Hanan Howlader from Bangladesh; Mochamad Anjas Syahrial from Indonesia; and Phang Kian Wui Lawrence from Malaysia.
They were each given seven days to settle their fines. Failure to do so would result in a further fine of BND1,000, or a month’s imprisonment, for the first convicted offence.
For subsequent offences, the penalty is a fine of BND3,000 and a prison term of up to three months.
Fines of BND300 were also issued to nine people yesterday, for smoking in prohibited places under Section 14(2) of the Tobacco Order 2005.
