Ten foreigners fined for improper rubbish disposal

Ten foreigners nabbed disposing rubbish in a public area of a commercial building in Gadong were levied with a compound fine of BND100 each by the Law Enforcement Unit of the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department yesterday in violation of the Minor Offences Act Section 12 (1) Chapter 30.

The 10 offenders are Masud, Nurul Huda, Herwin Kho, Diyon Erfin Sukmamul Tafilin, Adhitiya Yuli Kurniawan and Julita from Indonesia, Oscar JR Rogelio Nantes, Joel Agullar Nazareta and Mark Jeffrey Alcayde Villeno from the Philippines and Duraiarsan Alagosan from India.

The 10 have to settle their compounds within seven days. Failure to do so will see them being produced before court and fined BND1,000 or a month’s imprisonment for the first convicted offence.

For subsequent offences, the penalty is a BND3,000 fine and a prison term of up to three months.

Owners and management of buildings and tenants staying in commercial areas are reminded to dispose rubbish properly and maintain the cleanliness of the areas.

The public are also reminded not to dump rubbish in private areas.
