BRUNEI Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) and Brunei Shell Marketing Company Sdn Bhd (BSM), in collaboration with Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd, is continuing to instil road safety behaviour and etiquette among local youth through its fourth instalment of the ‘Tell Everyone’ safety outreach programme.
Over 400 students, instructors and members of staff from the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Sultan Bolkiah Campus (SBC) in Seria yesterday listened to a talk delivered by a Megamas representative on the importance of responsible driving, before being invited to tour booths set up on the campus premises.
Among the featured displays were a seatbelt convincer to highlight the necessity of seatbelt usage; a pair of impairment goggles to simulate the effects of drug or alcohol abuse; and an online simulation study to emphasise the consequences of using mobile phones while driving.
Present during the programme was Academic Manager at IBTE SBC Mohamad Zainor bin Haji Zainal, Deputy General Manager of Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd Haji Mahmud bin Haji Idris, Operation Manager at IBTE SBC Azman bin Haji Wahid, Acting Head of Schools, Energy and Engineering Hajah Roziaty binti Haji Mohammad Zaki and Social Investment Lead at BSP Haziq bin Abdullah Lim.
Mohamad Zainor said the increase in road fatalities was one of the main factors which led to the implementation of the programme.
“It is only right that the campaign is aimed at youth in the campus, which is also aligned with the aims of the National Road Safety Council (MKJJR) at reducing the number of road fatalities in the country by 35 per cent by 2020,” he said.
The outreach programme targets youths between the ages of 18 to 38 through monthly engagements at higher educational institutions across the country, with this month’s campaign being held at the IBTE SBC.
